CENTER FOR AEROSPACE SAFETY/SECURITY EDUCATION

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Center for Aerospace Safety/Security Education (CASE) is your one-stop shop for educating your workforce in today's challenging aviation environment. THE COURSE

This highly intensive certificate program combines all of the latest in safety, security, human error and accident investigation topics in a professional and dynamic classroom environment at our Embry-Riddle Campuses in Daytona Beach, Florida or Prescott, Arizona. A Certificate of Management in Aviation Safety can be earned after completing Aviation Safety Management, Accident Investigation and Management, OSHA for Aviation Safety Managers and Aviation Ground Safety.

Aviation Safety Management
This course is designed to provide the participant with the working information of an aviation safety program and how accidents can be prevented. The participant will review problems facing today's aviation safety program manager and learn how to deal with basic safety and risk management concepts; and analyze program elements typically found in aviation safety programs. Participants will engage in classroom exercises based on real world experiences to learn how to use additional tools and techniques to promote safety management in their organization. Some of the topics covered include Emergency Response Planning, Human Error Management, Aviation Security, Regulatory Safety and Health Programs and Flight Safety Programs. (4.4 CEU's)

Mishap/Accident Investigation Management
This course is designed to teach the participant the fundamentals required to conduct or manage an aircraft mishap/accident investigation. The participant will review the investigation sequence from the preplanning stage through the general survey and specific analysis of a mishap/accident, culminating with the determination of contributing factors and probable cause/s. Crash laboratory exercises, from past accidents, and case examples will help the participant identify, collect and analyze data in the process of determining probable cause/s. The participant will also discover solutions to problems faced during aircraft mishap/accident investigations. (4.4 CEU's)

Advanced Accident Investigation
This course is designed to introduce the participant to advanced accident investigation procedures involving design, materials and aircraft performance. This comprehensive course is a follow-on course for the accident investigation course or for the individual that has experience in accident in investigation. Topics to be discussed include CVR and FDR Data, composite material and aircraft crashworthiness and survivability. (4.0 CEU's)

Aviation Ground Safety
This course will provide the fundamental working knowledge of an aviation Ground Safety program concentrating on how incidents/accidents can be prevented and the expense of avoidable incident/ accident in terms of dollars and lives lost. Participants will acquire skills in the design and implementation of a program that includes ground event definition and categorization, OSHA safety audits, the role of the supervisor in safety, operational assessment, and incident/accident investigation. Knowledge gained is applicable in numerous operational environments including airlines, airports, business/corporate flight departments, and FBO's. (2.4 CEU's)

OSHA for Aviation Safety Managers
The course is designed to provide the participant with the working knowledge of OSHA general industry safety and health standards. The participant will also become familiar with current OSHA violations and issues in the aviation industry. Participants will engage in a hands-on exercise based on real-world experiences to aid them in the application of principles learned throughout the course. The participant will also receive the OSHA 10 hour general industry training card. (2.4 CEU's)

Aviation Ground Safety/OSHA Combined Course
This course is designed to provide the participant with the working knowledge of OSHA general industry safety and health standards and a fundamental working knowledge of an aviation Ground Safety program concentrating on how incidents/accidents can be prevented and the expense of avoidable incident/ accident in terms of dollars and lives lost. Participants will become familiar with current OSHA violations and issues in aviation, acquire skills in the design and implementation of a ground safety program and engage in hands on exercises based on real-world experiences to aid them in application of principles covered in the course. Participants will also receive the OSHA 30 hour general industry training card. (4.8 CEU’s)

Accident Investigation from the Maintenance Perspective
This course is designed to teach the aviation maintenance professional the fundamentals required to participate in an aircraft mishap/accident investigation. Course participants will learn the philosophy of an investigation, their responsibility in an investigation, and how to successfully achieve the investigation's purpose and goals. Solutions to problems faced during aircraft mishap/accident investigations will also be discussed. (4.0 CEU's)

Recip Engine Investigation – Three Day
This course is designed to provide the aviation professional with a technical course in aircraft reciprocating engine fundamentals and relevant accident investigative procedures. The course covers areas of study to include construction and design with emphasis on major sections, components, and their mechanical relationships. Power plant systems and system mishaps are also covered and include fuel, lubrication, ignition and starter systems. A study of propeller investigative techniques is also included. This course should be taken only if you have a good understanding of how a reciprocating engine operates. (2.4 CEU's)

Recip Engine Investigation – Five Day
This course is designed to provide the aviation professional with a technical course in aircraft reciprocating engine fundamentals and relevant accident investigative procedures. The course covers areas of study to include basic construction and design with emphasis on major sections, components, and their mechanical relationships. Power plant systems and system mishaps are also covered and include fuel, lubrication, ignition and starter systems. A study of propeller basics and investigative techniques is also included.  This course is for those that do not have a good understanding of how a reciprocating engine operates. (4.0 CEU's)

Turbine Engine Investigation
This course is designed to provide the aviation professional with a technical course in aircraft turbine engine fundamentals and relevant accident investigative procedures. The course covers areas of study to include basic construction and design with emphasis on major sections, components, and their mechanical relationships. Power plant systems and system mishaps are also covered and include fuel, lubrication, ignition and starter systems. (2.4 CEU's)

PRICING
Our courses are priced with your budget in mind, and quantity discounts apply. If you enroll in the Certificate of Management in Aviation Safety the cost for the required courses is $5,000.  That is a savings of $850 - $1400 depending on if you choose to take the combined Ground Safety and OSHA course or each course separately.  In order to receive the discount you must enroll in all of the courses at the same time however you do not need to take them consecutively.  The four required courses must be completed within 3 years of when you take the first course.

REGISTRATION POLICY
A 50% deposit is required to hold a slot in the class (your seat will not be held until the deposit has been received).
The remaining portion is due on first day of class.

Each participant MUST fill out the registration form with their appropriate contact information.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Your organization may substitute another individual to attend the course with a minimum of one weeks advanced notice.
If you are unable to attend the course, you may sign up for another offering of the same course with a minimum of one week advanced notice
If you need to cancel your enrollment entirely, you will receive a 100% refund up to 14 days prior to the start of the course or 50% refund for less than 14 days notice.
